This list was originally proposed by Paul Heggarty to reflect the most stable words across Germanic languages and is now used in the Sound Comparisons Projects. The data for a couple of Germanic language varieties was further included in the Benchmark Database of Phonetic Alignments, from which we took the list we present here.
